Gray Divorce, couples over the age of 50, is the fastest-growing demographic going thru a divorce. With age comes the increased risk of death and if a spouse dies during the divorce process, the unintended consequences can be drastic. During this webinar, we will identify a number of risks and suggested remedies. The ATROs restrict a number of desired estate planning actions, but there are a number of estate planning documents that can be executed and strategies employed to benefit your client.

Mark Prendergast is the Director of Tax Strategies at Inspired Financial, a comprehensive financial planning firm in Huntington Beach, California, where he heads up the divorce consulting department. He is a practicing CDFA®, CPA, and CFP® and has given numerous continuing education presentations for a variety of organizations, including the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts (IDFA), the Financial Planning Association (FPA), California Society of CPAs, Wealth Counsel, and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).  

He started his career with the international accounting firms Ernst & Young (then Ernst & Whinney) and Price Waterhouse having attained the position of tax manager.  He is married to Evelyn Zohlen, the 2019 president of the Financial Planning Association, who is also the founder of Inspired Financial.

Curtis Kaiser

JD, MBA

Curtis Kaiser founded the Kaiser Law Group in Long Beach, California in 2007 with an approach to estate planning that involves building mutual relationships not only with the client, but also with his/her trusted advisors in a truly collaborative approach. Curtis is a Board-Certified Estate Planning Specialist, a designation held by few estate planning attorneys in California. This commitment to specialization led him to develop what he calls “Purposeful Planning for the Millionaire Next Door®.” This is a client-centered model that focuses on sensible financial decisions to accumulate and sustain family wealth in all of its forms, across generations.

He is well-connected in the business community with a strong network of other professional advisors. He serves as a group leader for the Long Beach Airport group of Provisors and is also a Laureate in Wealth Strategies, a designation awarded by the Laureate Center for Wealth Advisors to estate planning professionals who counsel high-net worth clients. Curtis is also the co-founder of the Southern California chapter of the Purposeful Planning Institute and previously served as co-chair of the Los Angeles chapter of TIGER 21, the premier membership community for high-net worth creators and preservers. He is a frequent presenter to the Financial Planning Association, and CalCPA.

Curtis earned his B.A. degree, from the University of California at Santa Barbara, his J.D. degree from Santa Clara University, where he was named a Dean’s Fellow, and holds an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Business.

Janet E. Dockstader

Janet E. Dockstader is the managing partner of the family law firm Dockstader Orliczky located in Seal Beach and is a Certified Family Law Specialist. Janet grew up in Long Beach, California, graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara and finished her education at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. She also attended Monterey Institute of International Studies focusing her attention on Fluency in Spanish.
