Divorce Lending Association - Who We Are
Since 2014, at the Divorce Lending Association, our mission is to provide education and training to mortgage professionals who wish to help divorcing homeowners make informed decisions about their home equity solutions and mortgage financing opportunities. Our experiences have shown us that you can’t think traditionally when serving the needs of this unique population. To bridge the disconnect that’s often found between the various professionals involved in the divorce process, we developed the Certified Divorce Lending Professional (CDLP™) divorce mortgage planning program.
Divorce Mortgage Planning is the ability to put into play the desired outcome by pairing the needs and options available while incorporating the necessary details and clarity into an executable settlement agreement to obtain closure and peace of mind successfully.
Working directly with the divorce team, a CDLP™ incorporates divorce mortgage planning into the overall process with a unique and solid understanding of the intersection of family law, financial and tax planning, real property, and mortgage planning.
Collaborating with industry experts in family and/or real estate law, financial planning and tax law, mortgage financing, and real estate, the Divorce Lending Association was formed as it was very apparent there was a disconnect between all parties involved in the divorce process. Creating the Certified Divorce Lending Professional certification program was one huge step in connecting the pieces of the divorce puzzle making sure there is an educational opportunity for the mortgage and real estate professionals with a desire to further their career in the divorce market.
The Divorce Lending Association was founded by professionals who actively practice in the divorce lending and real estate market and who have a strong desire to train and mentor other professionals practicing in the divorce market.
Who you choose to partner with and what they bring to the table truly does affect your success.
How the CDLP Helps the Divorce Settlement Process
To become a CDLP™, a mortgage professional must complete a rigorous training program covering topics such as the types of property in a marriage, dividing real estate in a divorce, transferring ownership of real property, and how the mortgage interest deduction is affected by divorce. There is a certification exam required to earn the initial credential, plus four hours of continuing education that is necessary each year to maintain certification.
Each CDLP™ brings their own special skill set to the table. However, you can be confident that these mortgage professionals are well-equipped to help everyone on the divorce team understand the complications that can arise involving income, asset division, and equity as it relates to mortgage financing—and help establish a realistic timeline for clients who are eager to resolve their living arrangements as soon as possible.
The Journey of a Divorcing Homeowner
The CDLP™ training provided by the Divorce Lending Association is unmatched in the mortgage industry. While the typical mortgage professional may believe all they need to succeed in the divorce space is a basic understanding of mortgage guidelines, a CDLP™ understands the intersection of the other moving parts and is committed to providing a higher level of service to the divorcing homeowner.
